These books are perfect for any age and skill level. I have purchased the original four books and can tell you they were worth every penny. Needless to say, I jumped on the bandwagon. Lizzy, who is the owner of Stitch People, and her husband Spencer have found a way to “freshen up” counted cross stitch. Probably about two to three years ago, as I was out checking out Facebook, I ran across Stitch People. Smidget’s first big stitch project – 2015 People Stitch A beautiful art form once passed down from mother to daughter, so rarely exists anymore. I only actually know one person, my friend Karen, who still does counted cross stitch. Supplies I once used to be able to pick up in our local Walmart store, are no longer available. Fortunately for me, it’s a good deal with a coupon at Joann’s, as I actually use a lot!īut where have all the crafters gone? The supplies are now so limited. For most crafters, that is a bit much of fabric. And by the bolt, I mean 10 yards at a time. Now you only find tubes, unless you want to order it online by the bolt. Additionally, the traditional Aida fabric, that is most often used, you once could by off a bolt in the store. I now have a much harder time finding kits and patterns to work on. However, counted cross stitch seems to be becoming a lost art. This was the beginning of many many many more stitching projects to come.įast forward now, 30+ years later, I’m still stitching away and I’ve even got my daughter Smidget following in my footsteps. She then showed me how to do a simple straight stitch. She then taught me how to thread the needle. I clearly remember drawing a picture of a house. She handed it to me along with a marking pencil (vanishes when you wash) and told me to draw a picture. My very first stitch piece I remember her having me complete was on a piece of green scrap fabric. Over 30 years ago, my mother taught me how to do counted cross stitch. ![]()
